About Us
The Concept
The Mericourt Nursery in the fast developing area of Woodplumpton, Preston is the fruition of a vision to provide holistic care and development opportunities in a natural setting for babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. Conceived by Barkha Rani who has been working in the childcare area for the past 15 years and has already been running two other day care settings in the Preston area, the property has taken 18 months of meticulous planning and execution.
Children and Parents can look forward to an environment that is run and managed by experienced professionals who are passionate about making each day count for the child by ensuring they have opportunities to explore, have fun, learn and are able to develop their cognitive abilities by getting exposed to a variety of individual and small group play activities, both indoors and outdoors.
We have preserved as of the outdoors setting as possible so children can immerse them in the natural beauty surrounding the building.
When planning activities at the nursery, our focus is to inculcate the spirit of learning through curiosity, playing and exploring, active learning and thinking critically.
Our setting provides an environment for developing skills and awareness in the areas of numeracy, languages (including languages other than English), science, geography and environment, healthy eating, healthy habits and staying safe.
Our core values

Our Setting and History!
One of the greatest people to make Preston and Great Britain proud was James Towers who lived here. He received the highest award for valour bestowed to a soldier of the British Empire – the Victoria Cross. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Towers)
His citation read:
“For most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty at Méricourt on 6 Oct. 1918, when, under heavy fire, five runners having failed to deliver an important message, Private Towers, well aware of the fate of the runners who had already attempted the task, volunteered for the duty. In spite of heavy fire opened on him as soon as he moved, he went straight through from cover to cover and eventually delivered the message. His valour, determination and utter disregard of danger were an inspiring example to all.”
Since then, a family lived here for 45 years until 2021. They were very fond of horses, and it is the STABLES that have been renovated as outdoor rooms for children.
… it has since been eighteen months of planning and execution to turn this into a great place for children!
Our Team
We have an experienced management team consisting of Barkha and Sarah who have 30 years’ experience in childcare. They have been busy recruiting a hand-picked team for this exciting project and getting everything completed on the build of the premises as per the requirements of children.
