Curriculum & Development

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. High quality early learning together with good parenting provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.

We fully embrace the EYFS guidelines (statutory provisions) and supplement that further by adopting Birth-to-Five-Matters Framework.

We believe every child is unique and is constantly learning to develop capability, confidence, resilience and self-assurance. Our small group activities help children learn to be strong and independent through the development of positive relationships. Our setting and activities provide the enabling environment with teaching and support from the nursery practitioners designed around their individual interests and needs.

Children in our setting are exposed to a range of activities to develop skills and experiences in the following seven areas:

Healthy Eating & Staying Safe

With careful menu planning, food safety and management of allergies, we focus on healthy, balanced, and nutritious food for children. Before a child is admitted to our setting, we obtain information about any special dietary requirements, preferences and food allergies that the child has, and any special health requirements.

Technology

We extensively use technologies such as Dojo and Famly to record events for children. Parents have access to information in real time and can monitor the child’s progress and leave feedback.

Parent’s Involvement

Each child is assigned a key person and parents will be informed about their key person when the child starts attending out setting.

Transition to School

All through their stay with us children are developing their personal, social, logical, physical, emotional, and cognitive skills, but we start to focus them more during pre-school to get them ready for what lies ahead. We focus on all round development of the children so that they are confident and ready for school life. Our curriculum focuses on their individual needs, interests and the requirements for their age group and we make sure they get one-to-one time if required to develop their skills. We work with parents and schools in the transition for the children to ensure it is as smooth as possible.

Local Offer and SEND

In addition to the SEND principles under EYFS, we subscribe to the Lancashire SEND Partnership which brings together all the agencies in Lancashire which provide special educational needs and disability (SEND) services for children, young people, their parents and carers, with representatives from those who use the service. We regular monitor the progress of children and if required we will provide targeted support through a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO) to support the child’s future learning and development.

Safeguarding

All staff receive regular training in safeguarding policy and procedures to ensure staff have up to date knowledge of safeguarding issues.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

We have a strong belief in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and have policies, training and procedures in place to support. The practices range from our choice of toys, stories, food and recipes, games, languages & alphabets to celebrating a variety of cultural events from across the world.

British Values

We promote the British Values in our setting. The fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs are abiding principles we inculcate in children. We organise specific small group activities so that children are exposed and sensitised to these values.
